76% Surge in Student Enrolment in PM-SHRI Schools: A Transformative Leap in Education
Student enrolment in 40 PM-SHRI schools across five states has witnessed a remarkable surge of 75.8% in just three years, showcasing the impact of the PM Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) initiative. According to data from the Ministry of Education, these schools, spread across Manipur, Tripura, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, and Madhya Pradesh, saw their enrolment rise from 14,258 in 2020-21 to 25,065 in 2023-24.
The PM-SHRI scheme, launched in 2022, aims to revamp 14,500 schools nationwide into "exemplar schools" under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. These schools are envisioned to serve as models for academic excellence while mentoring nearby institutions. The transformation is already visible, with some schools recording extraordinary growth in enrolment. For instance, a school in Manipur increased its student numbers by 295%, from 173 in 2020-21 to 684 in 2023-24.
This surge underscores the scheme’s ability to attract students through improved infrastructure, innovative pedagogy, and alignment with NEP 2020 principles. The initiative focuses on enhancing learning outcomes and providing holistic education, making these schools a beacon of hope for quality education in government-run institutions.
So far, 12,084 schools across India have been selected under the PM-SHRI scheme. However, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal are yet to sign the necessary agreements to implement the program. With such encouraging results, the initiative promises a brighter future for India's education system.
