BJP's Ravneet Singh Bittu Slams Punjab Government Over Farmer Leaders' Detention

In a significant political development, BJP leader and Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu has strongly condemned the detention of several farmer leaders, including Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher, by the Punjab Police. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government of attempting to sabotage ongoing talks between the central government and the farmers.

Expressing his shock over the incident, Bittu stated that three Union ministers, who were engaged in discussions with the farmer leaders in Chandigarh, were equally surprised when they learned about the police action. According to him, the Punjab government’s move is a deliberate attempt to disrupt the negotiations between farmers and the central government.

The arrests took place in Mohali as the farmer leaders were returning from their meeting with the central delegation. Additionally, Punjab Police began evicting protesting farmers from Shambhu and Khanauri border points, which had remained closed for over a year due to ongoing demonstrations.

Bittu criticized Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of betraying the farmers. He further alleged that AAP National Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been in Punjab for the past three days, conspired against the farmers. According to Bittu, the Punjab government’s actions were strategically taken to influence urban voters ahead of the upcoming by-election in the Ludhiana West constituency.

The BJP leader firmly stated that the central government is committed to resolving the farmers' issues and remains serious about their concerns. He warned Kejriwal that his efforts to create a divide between Punjab’s urban and rural populations would fail, as the people of the state stand united.

Bittu reassured farmers that the BJP would persist in its engagement with them and continue working towards their welfare. He emphasized that his party remains dedicated to addressing the grievances of the farming community and ensuring their interests are safeguarded.

This latest political controversy adds to the ongoing tensions between the Punjab government, the central leadership, and farmer organizations, underscoring the complexities of agrarian issues in the state.
