Elon Musk Calls for NGOs’ Removal Amid ActBlue Controversy
Elon Musk has reignited a debate over the influence of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) after calling for their removal in a post on X. He shared a report questioning the fundraising platform ActBlue and its alleged ties to Democratic donors, suggesting that it was involved in money laundering by funnelling USAID funds to Democrats. Musk’s statement—"Delete the NGOs"—has drawn significant attention and sparked political discussions.
ActBlue has been instrumental in Democratic fundraising, allowing donors to make small, recurring contributions through an efficient payment processing system. However, concerns have been raised about suspiciously high volumes of donations attributed to elderly individuals who were unaware of them, leading to allegations of a possible “straw donor” scheme. Attorneys general from Virginia, Missouri, Wyoming, and Texas have launched investigations into these irregularities.
Musk has also accused ActBlue-funded groups of orchestrating protests against Tesla. He named five organizations—Troublemakers, Disruption Project, Rise & Resist, Indivisible Project, and Democratic Socialists of America—as being behind demonstrations targeting Tesla, allegedly backed by Democratic donors such as George Soros and Reid Hoffman. While Musk claims that these groups are part of a coordinated attack against Tesla, there is no verified evidence linking them to these activities.
The controversy comes amid financial challenges for Musk. His net worth has dropped by over $120 billion due to Tesla’s stock struggles and fears over potential tariffs from Donald Trump’s administration. Meanwhile, ActBlue itself is facing scrutiny after seven senior executives resigned, allegedly due to ongoing investigations into illicit foreign donations.
Tesla has also been subject to increasing acts of vandalism and arson, with incidents such as charging stations being set on fire and Molotov cocktail attacks on dealerships. While Musk believes that ActBlue is financially supporting anti-Tesla demonstrations, critics argue that Tesla’s declining reputation is due to factors unrelated to political interference.
The debate over ActBlue’s role in Democratic fundraising and its alleged involvement in anti-Tesla protests continues, with legal inquiries underway. Whether Musk’s claims will be substantiated remains uncertain, but his remarks have intensified discussions on political funding, corporate influence, and the power of NGOs in shaping public narratives.
