Mamta Kulkarni Embraces Spiritual Life, Becomes Mahamandaleshwar
Mamta Kulkarni, a renowned Bollywood actress of the 90s, has embarked on a spiritual journey by renouncing her worldly life. At the Maha Kumbh, the actress assumed the identity of ‘Mai Mamta Nand Giri’ and was consecrated as a Mahamandaleshwar in the Kinnar Akhara, marking a significant transformation in her life.
Mamta took ‘sanyas’ (renunciation) after performing the sacred ritual of ‘Pind Daan’ to honour her ancestors on the banks of the Ganga. Following her initiation, she received blessings from Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi and the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Mahant Ravindra Puri. Dressed as a ‘sadhvi,’ she immersed herself in the spiritual environment of Maha Kumbh, participating in rituals that symbolized her dedication to the Sanatan Dharma.
Mamta’s spiritual journey began 23 years ago when she received her first initiation from Guru Shri Chaitanya Gagan Giri in Kupoli Ashram. Her years of penance and spiritual practice concluded in this sacred moment. She passed a rigorous examination conducted by Swami Mahendranand Giri Maharaj and was deemed worthy of the revered title of Mahamandaleshwar.
Expressing gratitude, Mamta shared that she chose Laxmi Narayan Tripathi as her spiritual guide, referring to her as a direct manifestation of Ardhnareshwar, a representation of divine balance. Mamta stated, "I did not leave Bollywood due to challenges but to experience spiritual bliss." She also revealed that her decision was guided by a deeper calling to preach the Sanatan Dharma on the 'middle path.'
The Kinnar Akhara, established in 2018, welcomed Mamta with open arms, emphasizing that their focus is on service and spirituality. The process of becoming a Mahamandaleshwar involves 12 years of dedicated penance, chanting, and living a disciplined life. Mamta’s induction was a testament to her unwavering commitment to these principles.
Mamta Kulkarni now joins a select group of spiritual leaders tasked with preserving and promoting Sanatan Dharma. As she steps into this new role, she aims to contribute to religious discourse and social upliftment, marking a profound chapter in her life.
