Missing Boy from Netflix's 'Unsolved Mysteries' Found After Seven Years
A kidnapping case featured on Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries has finally been solved, over seven years after a young boy was taken by his mother. The now 14-year-old, missing since November 2017, was found in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, along with his mother, Rabia Khalid, 40. Khalid, who did not have custody of the child at the time, was arrested along with Elliot Blake Bourgeois, 42, who was with her at the time of discovery. Both face multiple charges, including second-degree kidnapping, forgery, identity theft, providing false information, and trespassing. They are being held on $1 million bonds each.
Authorities were led to Khalid and Bourgeois on February 23 after police responded to a trespassing report at a vacant home in Highlands Ranch. The homeowner, monitoring the property through security cameras, alerted authorities when two people were seen entering the house. Upon arrival, police found two children waiting in a car nearby, one of whom was the kidnapped boy.
Khalid and Bourgeois initially attempted to mislead the police, with Bourgeois providing an alias linked to a deceased person and Khalid claiming she had no identification. However, after four hours of investigation, their true identities were uncovered, leading to Khalid's arrest on an outstanding warrant.
The kidnapped boy, who had been taken from Atlanta, Georgia, on November 27, 2017—just 13 days after his seventh birthday—had been listed on the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children's database. A felony warrant for Khalid was issued in 2020. The boy's case gained national attention after being featured in Unsolved Mysteries, Volume 3, Episode 9, titled "Abducted by a Parent," where his father detailed the abduction.
Since his recovery, the boy’s family has expressed immense relief and gratitude towards law enforcement, particularly the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, for their role in solving the case. However, they have requested privacy as they focus on healing and reuniting with their son.
The process of reintegrating the teen into his family is ongoing, with authorities ensuring a smooth transition. Meanwhile, the investigation into Khalid and Bourgeois’ activities and their presence at the vacant house continues.
