MS Dhoni Speaks Out on IPL Retirement Rumours: "My Body Will Decide"
MS Dhoni, one of Indian cricket's most iconic figures, has finally addressed the swirling speculations regarding his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Following Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) crushing 50-run defeat against the Delhi Capitals on Saturday, fans and critics alike began to wonder if the 2025 season could be Dhoni's final campaign as a player. However, in a recent podcast with entrepreneur Raj Shamani, Dhoni offered clarity on his future, putting a pause to the growing chatter.
The 43-year-old former India captain stated that he’s not in a rush to make any decisions and prefers to take things one year at a time. “I am still playing the IPL and one year at a time. I am 43, by the end of this IPL season, I will be 44 in July. So I have 10 months to decide whether I want to play one more year, and it's not me deciding; it's my body, whether you can play or not,” Dhoni explained during the podcast.
Despite his age, Dhoni has continued to impress with his lightning-fast wicket-keeping, razor-sharp game sense, and exceptional fitness. His reflexes behind the stumps remain as sharp as ever, earning praise from fans and pundits alike. However, it's his batting form that has drawn concern this season.
So far in the 2025 IPL campaign, Dhoni has featured in four matches but hasn't made a strong impact with the bat. He has been dismissed only once, yet has struggled to finish innings in the way fans have come to expect from the ‘finisher’. In the match against Delhi Capitals, Dhoni managed a 26-ball 30, which fell short of inspiring a comeback for CSK.
With CSK managing just one win from their first four games this season, the franchise faces mounting pressure to turn things around if they hope to secure a place in the playoffs. While the team struggles collectively, Dhoni’s future remains a topic of keen interest—but for now, he remains focused on the present.
As he has always done throughout his career, Dhoni has chosen calm over chaos, reminding everyone that when it comes to retirement, he’ll listen to the only voice that matters—his body.
