Tamil Nadu Launches Its First Mobile Passport Seva Van in Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu has taken a significant step in making passport services more accessible to people in remote and underserved areas with the launch of its first mobile Passport Seva Van in Coimbatore. Inaugurated by K J Srinivasa, Joint Secretary and Chief Passport Officer from the Union Ministry of External Affairs, this state-of-the-art van is designed to simplify and streamline the passport application process for residents across six districts—Coimbatore, Tirupur, the Nilgiris, Erode, Namakkal, and Salem.

Equipped with modern facilities such as fingerprint scanners, photo capturing devices, a UPS, a generator, and a wheelchair-accessible ramp, the van is set to bring crucial government services to the doorsteps of people living in far-flung areas. Regional Passport Officer K S Sathish confirmed that appointments for this service are already available on the official website (www.passportindia.gov.in). Depending on demand, the van will visit remote locations once a week or once every 15 days.

To ensure a seamless start, trial appointments will be conducted at the Coimbatore office for three days in the upcoming week. Following successful testing, the van will begin operations in nearby areas. This initiative marks a revolutionary change, bridging the gap between rural communities and essential government services.

In addition to the mobile van, the authorities are establishing a post office Passport Seva Kendra in the Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency, which is expected to be operational by the end of this year. This new facility will further expand the reach of passport services in Tamil Nadu.

The introduction of the mobile Passport Seva Van reflects the government’s commitment to inclusivity and convenience, ensuring that even the most remote communities can access vital services effortlessly. This innovative approach sets a benchmark for citizen-focused service delivery.
