Tensions Flare on Ram Navami: Right-Wing Group Creates Ruckus at Ghazi Miyan Dargah in Prayagraj

On the occasion of Ram Navami, a group of right-wing activists caused a major disturbance at the dargah of Salar Masood Ghazi Miyan in the Sikandra area of Prayagraj. A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows several men waving saffron flags and raising provocative slogans near the dome of the dargah, located in the Ganganagar zone. The men reached the site on bikes and climbed onto the dargah roof before police could respond.

Manendra Pratap Singh, who identifies himself on social media as a student leader from Allahabad University, former state president of the Karni Sena, and a BJP leader, uploaded the video on his Facebook page. In his post, Singh labeled Salar Masood Ghazi as an “invader” and called for the immediate demolition of the dargah, arguing that it does not belong in the holy city of Prayagraj.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ganganagar) Kuldeep Singh Gunawat, the incident involved a group of miscreants who deliberately disrupted peace by climbing the shrine and displaying saffron flags. The DCP confirmed that departmental action is underway against police personnel who failed to prevent the incident. He added that the dargah houses five shrines and has historically attracted both Hindu and Muslim devotees who come to offer 'chadar', making it a symbol of syncretic tradition in the area.

Authorities are currently investigating the matter, and legal action is expected against those involved. The incident, which occurred during Ram Navami processions held across the city, has sparked concerns over religious harmony and the growing influence of fringe groups attempting to stoke communal tensions.

The police's quick arrival at the scene reportedly led to the removal of the individuals involved, but they had already fled by then. Law enforcement is analyzing footage and social media posts to identify and apprehend the culprits. Officials emphasize that the sanctity of religious places must be preserved and that such provocations will not be tolerated.

This episode underscores the need for vigilance, communal harmony, and responsible leadership, especially during sensitive religious observances.
