Tragic Accident Claims Life of LKG Student at School in Vikravandi

A four-year-old girl, P Liya Lakshmi, tragically lost her life on Friday after falling into a septic tank at a private matriculation school near the Vikravandi police station. The incident occurred when the young student, returning from the restroom, stepped on a corroded steel lid covering the tank, which gave way. Despite efforts by school authorities, she could not be saved and was declared dead upon arrival at the Government Villupuram Medical College and Hospital in Mundiyambakkam.



The girl's parents, Sivasankari and Palanivel, and outraged locals held a road blockade on the Chennai-Villupuram highway, accusing the school management of negligence. Palanivel, her father, is an e-service contract employee at the Tindivanam Revenue Office.

The tragedy brought immediate scrutiny to the school premises. District Chief Education Officer Arivazhagan and Vikravandi MLA Anniyur Siva visited the site to investigate. The CEO assured strict action against those responsible and announced inspections of private schools to ensure safety compliance. CCTV footage revealed the shocking sequence of events, adding to the calls for accountability.

Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed his condolences and announced a solatium of ₹3 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund for the grieving family. The incident has highlighted the need for stricter safety measures in educational institutions.
